Not so much in Highlands o Scotland, we were planting forestry for timber in 18th Century. we had less arable land, but used it better with a rotational cycle alongside the high moors (because the indigenous sheep and cattle did well on that cycle. Then the Landlords brought in "improved" sheep breeds, and kicked the Tennants off the better land. I live in the Welsh mountains, nothing suitable for human consumption grows up here other than sheep, goats and pigs.
