It’s very common for people to fall for these scams when they are at a low point in their lives, distracted, rushed or otherwise not paying attention. Our best defense is education. Which is challenging with all of the false warnings we see on social media every day. I know cyber security professionals that have been scammed. One was in the middle of moving and another was distracted. It happens. There is plenty you can do to protect yourselves, but the bottom line is to not make these type of snap decisions in those moments of inattention. I know, easier said than done. But scammers are actively looking for people when they are distracted.
