I really wish news items would learn the difference between a virus being highly "infectious" versus being highly "transmissible/contagious". These two terms are not interchangeable; they mean different things. A virus can be highly infectious, but not very contagious and vice versa. The former pertains to a pathogen's ability to amplify within a host (high viral load), the latter, a host's ability to pass the infection on to another. I know this may sound like I'm splitting hairs, but this has resulted in confusion that has often been construed as 'fear mongering' among the public. Responsible journalism means paying attention to semantics. A virus that is very infectious is more dangerous, regardless of how contagious it is, as it can result in complications for the host, like viremia.
