I mean until Americans have restricted access to fire arms etc then the police can descale there armed capabilities. And not left feeling under equipped. But I do agree police shouldnt have access to artillery I've never heard of police situations where a hold housing estate needs flattening. What this report didn’t mention was that the trend of militarising the police really accelerated after 9/11 which saw the largest loss of life for police officers as most watched on hopelessly as the towers were hit and crumbled along with the Pentagon. There needs to be appropriate and strong justifications as to why regular police outside of counter-terrorism and SWAT units need this type of equipment, and limiting the amount of equipment available and tightening requirements is a good first step towards improving relationships between police and communities.
